Omayad mecset - pillanatkép
Damaszkusz legnagyobb mecsetében, az Omayad-ban (is) élik közösségi életüket a szírek, így a mecset belső udvara társadalmi szerepet is ellát: a szírerekre jellemző nyugodt életvitelhez hűen a vallási helyen jókedvű embereket látni. A felnőttek beszélgetnek, a gyerkek pedig önfeledten játszanak, a mecset belsejében viszont csend van, s természetesen imádkozó embereket látni, a napi fő ima alkalmával akár több ezren is megjelennek.
